Stylized Worldbuilding with Alexandre “Zedig” Diboine

Description Alexandre Diboine is a French concept and visdev artist, working for both animation and video games. He has previously worked with clients such as Disney and Netflix on projects like Amphibia and The Owl house. STUDENT EXPERIENCES “It was the first time I took part of a live session course like this and it was an incredible experience, way beyond my expectations. “I heard about Alexandre’s work for the first time almost 10 years ago and I very often have some of his images in my reference sheets. I struggle to keep things in the long term when I have ideas I want to develop, so when I saw he would run a course about worldbuilding I jumped on it. “The course was very complete, Alexandre obviously talked about worldbuilding, talking about his way of doing it and a whole lot of tips on how to approach things, but he also dealt with more technical aspects such as his layer management or his use of blender, which was very interesting. On top of all that, he also talked about the importance of having a healthy relationship with drawing, and I think it was this last element that had the most impact on me. “Alexandre, in addition to being a very good artist, is a really kind person. Always pushing people forward. He answered every single question in a very passionate way. As someone who is naturally very reserved, I quickly felt comfortable. “I left this class better equipped than when I arrived, and above all with a much lighter heart. “I don’t regret signing up for this course for a second.” —Elouen Bigot–Pécot “Backgrounds and environmental work, especially buildings, were always my biggest struggle. Zedig was able to help me approach this in a less intimidating and fun way, and makes it seem like a much less daunting task than it is. Not only that, but he helped me discover a new approach to character design and shape language, which I never really fully leaned into before. The brushes he provided were super helpful as I tend to stress about linework too much, but this monoline brush helps me focus on the design more than the lines! “I really enjoyed seeing Zedig share his work and examples, it brought me back to a more whimsical time in my life when I was younger and had a passion for drawing and the world around me. Zedig was very kind, patient and motivating, and I really appreciated his enthusiasm for both the course and his material– it was so fun and nice to see him get very excited about certain topics. It made me smile and feel like for a moment I could forget all the pressures of life around me, especially after struggling with my own personal relationship with art for so long.
